It pains me to have to share this with the world, but I think it’s only fair that people know the legacy of the Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R that I once possessed.
About 2.5 years ago, the company I used to work for, imported a 1999 Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R and a 1998 Toyota Supra RZ-S in hopes of someday getting them legalized for use in the United States. This would have involved crash testing & necessary emissions testing to get the vehicles compliant for U.S. use. Needless to say, it was an exciting project to be working on.
After much research, we discovered that it would take a lot more than just a few sheets of paper with vital information to get these car legal, not to mention about $120,000 worth of crash testing per car, too. After long discussions with the directors of the company, we decided to put the project on the back burner & come back to it at a later time.
As the years went by, I was able to take the cars to a few meets. The Supra made its first official appearance at a HellaFlush event at Venice Beach. Even though the fitment on the Supra wasn’t up to par with the rest of the cars there, it still got A LOT of attention.
Things were looking good, until I got some heart breaking news at the beginning of July…
“Right Hand Drive JAPAN, LTD. will be closing its doors at the end of the month”.
Heart breaking, indeed. Not only was I losing my dream job, but this also meant that the Silvia, as well as our Supra, had to be taken care of. Since we never completed the petition process to get the Silvia or Supra legalized, we only had 2 options:
1. Export the vehicle from the United States, meaning it has to leave on a boat & not driven to Canada or Mexico.
2. Destroy the vehicles
Exporting the cars was not the best option, since shipping both cars back would cost about $2000 total, plus the cost of import fees & a laundry list of fees that come with it. Also, as hard as it is to believe, these cars aren’t worth much in Japan. Selling them at auction wouldn’t ever cover the costs of shipping & related expenses.
The most cost effective thing to do was to crush the cars. I know what you’re thinking, “Why don’t you just sell the car to someone?” “Why don’t you just use it as an off-road use vehicle?” “Why don’t you just say it got stolen?” Why this? Why that? People, this is the United States Government we’re dealing with here. I have a very good reputation with them & I’m not about to mess that up. People also asked me, “Why didn’t you just part them out?” That was my initial plan, but people started getting greedy & giving me orders on what I should do with the car & even went as far as plan to take parts that I did not approve of. Eventually I got fed up & said, “Forget it. If you’re going to treat me with such disrespect, then none of you deserve parts from these cars”.
After talking to my Customs Agent & the wrecking yard, the appointment was set to get these vehicles taken care of & send them off to Car Heaven.
Sadly, I wasn’t able to witness the destruction process & take video like I originally planned, because I was running late, but I was able to snap some pictures. By the time I got there, the Supra was long gone. I did, however, get to see my beloved S15 one last time. She was completely destroyed. I seriously shed some tears when I saw the images I’m about to show you.
The following images are very gruesome, so please, be warned.
Goodbye, Silvia. You have no idea how much I’m going to f*cking miss you. I’m sorry that I had to do this to you…

i know the pain of losing a car you love, its not like you can go buy another car and be happy its a completely different car. but when u do get another car its gonna be like a different life

There’s going to be more opportunities out there. Keep on stridin’ and I promise you things will look out!
P.S. Don’t abandon the blog!
This breaks my heart to see such nice cars to go waste, but if it has to be done, so be it. I respect your decision, as I would have probably done the same. I hope you can find another car that fills in the gaps of these two beauties.
I got a pic i think before they went RIP.:/
